  • ToneSpec Vintage Clone Series – Alan Hamel ’59 Strat Pickup Set

By 1959, the Stratocaster was evolving—visually, sonically, and emotionally. And while Fender had begun experimenting with rosewood fretboards and a slightly cleaner aesthetic, the magic of the pre-CBS era was still alive in every pickup. Alan Hamel, decades later, channeled that spirit with a rare ’59-inspired wind that blended vintage chime with a tighter low end and refined articulation—a sound that became a secret weapon of serious tone chasers..

His original ’59-style sets? Nearly impossible to find. They were built in small numbers for discerning players who demanded the real feel of a broken-in late-'50s Strat—with more output and bite than earlier '54 winds, and more soul than the mass-market reissues ever delivered.

    That’s why we built this.

The Vintage Clone Alan Hamel ’59 Strat Set recreates everything great about Hamel’s take on the golden-year Strat tone. We started with vintage correct wire, Alnico magnets, and modeled after original late-‘50s techniques. But just like Hamel, we added subtle voicing tweaks to increase dynamic headroom, bring out the natural midrange detail, and tame the harshness that plagues modern clones.

The result is a set that feels like the Strat you wish you owned: rounder lows, smoother highs, glassy but controlled presence, and that vocal “quack” in positions 2 and 4 that lets clean tones sing and driven tones breathe.

This is the set for players who want the expressive top end of a '54, but with more focus and punch. Think Buddy Holly clarity meets SRV fire, all in a touch-sensitive package worthy of pro sessions and vintage showpieces.

We’ve already cloned the best: Tom Holmes, Virgil Arlo, Tim White, Abigail Ybarra, and yes—Alan Hamel himself. Our work speaks through the hands of Grammy winners, Nashville legends, and vintage collectors who trust their tone to the best.

“These pickups respond just like vintage pickups. What makes them better than vintage pickups is that each set is consistent. You don’t don’t get that with vintage pickups…some are great & some are duds.  The Tone Specific’s always sound amazing. There's nothing else like these on the market.”
