  • ToneSpec Vintage Clone Series – Alan Hamel ’51 Nocaster Tele Pickup Set

After Fender was forced to drop the “Broadcaster” name in early 1951, a rare transitional model emerged—the “Nocaster.” No model name on the headstock. No frills. Just a tool built for work, grit, and pure tone. And the pickups? Legendary.

Years later, Alan Hamel—the quiet genius at Fender—set out to recreate those elusive 1951 tones with a level of hand-guided precision few could match. His Nocaster winds weren’t publicized. They weren’t part of a mass-market run. But among the builders and players who knew, they were the gold standard for vintage Tele tone.

    This set is our tribute.

The Vintage Clone Alan Hamel ’51 Nocaster Tele Set is a faithful revival of Hamel’s rare Nocaster—built using true vintage techniquesAlnico magnets, vintage style wire, and a vintage winding approach come together to deliver the tight bass, woody midrange, and dry bite that defined the earliest Telecasters.

This set has slightly more low-mid punch than a ’50 Broadcaster and a more refined, vocal high end—perfect for players chasing that in-between year where Tele tone matured but hadn’t yet mellowed. Roll back the tone and you’ll find soft round edges. Dig in, and it growls like a cranky old tweed amp.

    It’s not just vintage—it’s alive.

We’ve already brought back the tones of Virgil Arlo, Tim White, Abigail Ybarra, Tom Holmes, and yes—Alan Hamel. Our work lives in the hands of Grammy winners, Nashville lifers, and collectors with ears too good to settle for second-best.

So if you’ve been hunting for the real-deal ’51 Nocaster tone, and the originals are out of reach—we’ve got you covered.

“These pickups respond just like vintage pickups. What makes them better than vintage pickups is that each set is consistent. You don’t don’t get that with vintage pickups…some are great & some are duds.  The Tone Specific’s always sound amazing. There's nothing else like these on the market.”

"Just like vintage pickups only better. They have this dynamic thing going on kind of like a great tube amp. I imagine this is what new vintage pickups sounded like back in the 50's & 60's"
